During this time, he acquired thousands of books, particularly in Lithuanian, which became the foundation of the library in Marijampolė. From 1927 to 1930, he was the Vicar General in Lithuania. From 1933 onwards, he resided in Rome and was a General Councilor. He systematized the library and general archives in Rome. He is buried in the Marian Fathers’ tomb in Campo Verano Cemetery in Rome. February 10 On February 10, 1732, Brother MATTHIAS of SAINT MARTIN died at the monastery in Goźlin where he is also buried. In 1956, Brother FRANCIS SMIGLEVIČIUS (Smig-le-vee-choos), died at the age of 81 at the house in Žemaičių Kalvarija (Ze-mai-choo Kalva-ree-ah), Lithuania. He was a professed Marian for 35 years. He joined our Congregation in 1920, having previously been a member of the Congregation of Dolorist Brothers. He faithfully served the community, carrying out various types of manual labor. He is buried in Žemaičių Kalvarija. February 11 On February 11, 1730 (or 1731), Father JOACHIM of SAINT ANNE KOZŁOWSKI (Koz-wov-ski) drowned while crossing the Vistula River on his way from Goźlin to Góra Kalwaria at the age of 72. He was one of the first Marians recruited by our holy Father Founder. In 1690, he accompanied Father Founder to Rome. In 1698, he was sent to Rome as Procurator General and obtained pontifical approval of the Institute there, under the Rule of the Ten Virtues of the Blessed Virgin Mary. In 1723, he traveled to Rome again and obtained approval of the Order’s statutes. He was elected Superior General four times. He is buried in Goźlin. In 1731, Father JAMES of SAINT ANNE died at the monastery in Puszcza Korabiewska and is buried there. In 1754, Father ADALBERT (Ah-dahl-bert) STRACH (Strakh), a Czech, died at the monastery in Marijampolė. He was the first President of that monastery. He is buried in Marijampolė. In 1821, Father ANDREW KATYLL (Ka-till), a “Father of the Order,” died at the monastery in Marijampolė at the age of 70. He was a religious for 50 years. He was a Lector of sacred theology and later Secretary of the Prussian Province. He is buried in Marijampolė.
