A PRIL 65 In 2021, Father LADISLAUS CIĄGŁO [Cion-gwo] died suddenly. He was 56 years old, a religious for 36 years and a priest for 30. After his ordination he served in various parishes in Slovakia and Czech Republic. In 1998, he was appoint- ed superior of the Czech and Slovak Vicariate and fulfilled this office until 2005. In 2009, he was transferred to the B.V.M., Mother of Mercy Province in the U.S. to prepare for mission work in the Philippines. He was the superior of the Asian Vicariate for one term. In August 2020, he returned to Poland. He is buried in the Marian Fathers’ section of the Wawrzyszew cemetery in Warsaw. A PrIl 25 On April 25, 1728, Father GABRIEL of the PRESENTATION of the BLESSEDVIRGINMARY died at the Goźlin monastery and is buried in Goźlin. In 1790, Father LOUIS ZAPAŁKIEWICZ (Za-paw-k’evich), a “Father of the Order,” died at the age of 65 at the Góra Kalwaria monastery. He was a lector of philosophy, president of the monastery and confessor of the St. Dominic’s Sisters. He was the first Postulator for Father Founder’s beatification cause. He is buried at the Cenacle in Góra Kalwaria. In 1795, Brother FRANCIS NIEMIROWSKI (N’e-mi-rof-ski) died unex- pectedly in Krasne, where he was painting portraits at the palace of a dignitary. He was 60 years old, and a religious for 28 years. He was a talented painter sought after by King Stanislaus August Poniatowski and many bishops and magnates. He also decorated a number of Marian churches with his paintings. He is buried by a Marian priest in the parish church of Krasne. In 1987, Father JOSEPHPAWLAK (Pav-lak), age 73, a member of the Polish Province, died in a hospital at Konin. He was a religious for 57 years and a priest for almost 42. He worked with great zeal in various parishes of the Province and also for some years as a chaplain for religious sisters. For the last 10 years of his life, he served at our Marian Shrine in Licheń, where he is buried. A PrIl 26 On April 26, 2002, Father JOHN SAVUKYNAS , age 88, died quietly at Provena Mercy Hospital inAurora, Illinois. He joined the Marians in 1940. On July 16, 1941, he professed his first vows, followed by his perpetual vows in 1944. Father John worked in parish ministry all his life. He is buried in the section reserved for the Marians in St. Casimir’s cemetery in Chicago.
