† A LBUM OF THE D ECEASED F ATHERS AND B ROTHERS † 36 f ebruAry 19 from theAlbum of the DeCeAseD: On February 19, 1767, Father ADALBERT KOBYLIŃSKI (Kobih-lin'-ski), age 27, died at the monastery in Raśna. He was a lector of philosophy and much esteemed for his virtue. He is buried in the crypt of the Raśna church. In 1800, Father BENIGNUS JANULEWICZ (Ya-noo-le-vich), a priest for 11 years and a religious for 23, died at the age of 46 at the monastery in Miroslavas. He was preacher of the said monastery and he is buried there. In 1845, Brother NICHOLAS ROGOWSKI , age 71, died at the monastery in Marijampolė. A religious for 29 years, he was the Order’s last religious brother before the renovation by Blessed George. He is buried in Marijampolė. In 1927, Father BERNARD KUBLINSKIS , a Latvian, died at Marijampolė within a month after entering the Marian novitiate. In 1919, he was elected to the Latvian Parliament and in this capacity he contributed to the signing of a Concordat between Latvia and the Holy See. In order to embrace the religious life in our Congregation he resigned his position of a Deputy in the Latvian Parliament and a professor in the Riga Seminary. He is buried in St. Michael’s cemetery in Riga. In 2007, Father VICTOR PENTJUŠS died at the age of 91, in the rectory of the Parish of the Sorrowful Mother of God in Riga, Latvia. He joined the Marians in 1931 and served in various Latvian parishes before World War II. In 1948, he was arrested and sentenced to 10 years of prison camp for “assistance to the German occupants and the anti-Soviet agitation.” He was sent to work in coalmines in the Republic of Komi. Set free after Stalin’s death, he returned to Latvia and was appointed to work at the Riga Seminary. Under the Soviet regime he secretly accept- ed candidates to the Marian community from all over the Soviet Union. In the last years of his life he bore his illness with great patience, celebrating Holy Mass daily, either at the church or at home. He is buried in Viļāni. f ebruAry 20 On February 20, 1980, Father LEON SZELĄG (She-long), a member of the Polish Province, died in Lublin, Poland, at the age of 77. He was a religious for 60 years and a priest for 44. He studied philosophy in Rome and theology in Warsaw. During the German occupation he was a chaplain in the underground Polish Army. After the war he was imprisoned by the Communists for six years for his work among the youth and students. Later he served as the provincial superior for six years. He is buried in the Marian Fathers’ section of the Wawrzyszew cemetery in Warsaw.
