the Spirit among His members to nourish, heal, and organize them in their mutual functions, to give them life, send them to bear witness, and associate them to His self-offering to the Father and to His intercession for the whole world. Through the Church’s sacraments, Christ communicates His Holy and sanctifying Spirit to the members of His Body” (CCC 739). “The Spirit helps us in our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but the Spirit Himself intercedes with sighs too deep for words” (Rom 8:26). Mary, Mother of Mercy & Our Guide “Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy, our life, our sweetness and our hope” is a prayer in which, for centuries, people called on Mary, the Mother of Jesus for help and were not disappointed. Devotion to Mary is an important element in the spirituality of Nurses for Divine Mercy. They are reminded of her maternal and intercessory role by her words spoken to St. Juan Diego during her apparitions in Guadalupe, Mexico, in 1531. “Hear me and understand well, my son the least, that nothing should frighten or grieve you. Let not your heart be disturbed. Do not fear that sickness, nor any other sickness or anguish. Am I not here, who is your Mother? Are you not under my protection? Am I not your health? Are you not happily within my fold? What else do you wish? Do not grieve nor be disturbed by anything ... I will exhibit here and give all my love, compassion, help, and protection, because I am your merciful mother, to you, and to all the inhabitants on this land and all the rest who love me, invoke and confide in me; there I will listen to their lamentations, and remedy all their miseries, afflictions and sorrows.” 50
